- Hedge Schools told by Mrs Matthews aged 80 Cormeen Moynalty, Co Meath to her daughter Mrs Drake, Edengorra N.S. Bailieboro
A hedge school master lived in the townland of Mullinastoghan in this Parish of Kilmainhamwood about the year 1850 and taught school there about the place where Mr Fagan now lives in Tom Shaffrey's land. His name was Galligan and he was also a poet as well as a teacher. He married a girl from Oldcastle against the will of her family. It seems he wished to make friends with her family later on and for this purpose he composed the following verses on an invitation to her brothers to come to breakfast with them:-"Dear Sir to shun domestic strife
I write this note to please my wife
For when such dames we do not please
At home we have but little ease
(II)Now to be brief she does expect
That you and Tom will not neglect
And Owen too without protest
Will breakfast here on Sunday next
