- Born 1670 - Died 1738Nobber is also famous for its being the birthplace of Toirdeabhac O'Carolan the last of the old Irish Bards. He was born at Spiddal outside Nobber. He was stricken with smallpox when he was about twelve years of age and he was blind ever after.
This was a cause of great affliction to him. He once went to Dublin to hear an Italian playing on the harp. He at once developed a liking for music, and he played the same tune from memory afterwards.He once had an unsuccessful love afair with Lady Cruice.
