- About a hundred years ago there was a malthouse in Glen Kieran, which is in this parish. The work consisted of malting barley.
All the local farmers used to send their barley to the malt house. It was kiln - dried and put up in lofts. After going through the malting process it was sent to the distillery to make whiskey.
This gave wok to a considerable number of people. The work was carried on by a man named Norris. The river Kieran running alongside the building supplied him with power to work his machinery.
In later years the late Captain Taaffe remodelled the whole building and erected machinery for storing and curing tobacco. In the tobacco season over a hundred people were employed at this work.- Bailitheoir
