The groom would take his bride home in the middle of the night and the remainder of the party would keep up the spree sometimes for several days . The bride's flitting would arrive at her future home before she got there and the neighbours were all on the look out for it to criticise its contents .Therefore it usually arrived in the dark if possible .It never was considered lucky for her 'flitting" to be sent without a married woman sitting on the cart. this woman was as great a character as the match(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
