- This was told me by Joseph Coyle Tullystown Castletown Street Co. Westmeath. Aged sixty years.
The local fairs in our district are held in Castlepollard, Oldcastle, Granard, Kilgola.
Castlepollard fair is a great cattle and sheep fair. In each of these places there are travellers who come to stay in the streets selling their goods. Some sell clothes and other delph and some sell furniture. After the fair when all the cattle are sold the people crowd around these travellers to buy some of their goods as the(y) are supposed to be cheap. These travellers are known by the name of "Cheap John". A great number of old women come in shopping on fair days(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
