- In olden times it was the custom for a young man and woman to elope. The young man would bring the girl to a friend's house and keep her there and in some cases refuse to marry her until he would get a certain amount of money from her parents .In some cases the parent would have to borrow the money. Around here it was considered unlucky for a newly married couple to enter their new home by the hall door for the first time after their marriage . They had to enter by the back unless there was only one door on the house . It was also considered unlucky for a bride to return to her parent's house under a month after a marriage but in some cases they would return to the garden and be entertained(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
