the potatoes. There are different kinds of potatoes grown in our district. There are "queens" which are long red skinned potatoes, "banners", "kerpinks" and "arren-victors". The banners are the most common in our district.
The potatoes are planted in the end of March and in the beginning of April. In June when the potatoes are growing there is a blight that comes on them and to prevent this, the farmer has to spray them with a mixture of bluestone and washing soda. This liquid is put in a sprayer which has little holes on it for the wash to come out on. The farmers spray the potatoes twice before they dig them. They begin digging them in July but they dig them to pit them in September and October.
Most people dig them with a spade but some dig them with a digger.
