- This is situated on the road between Ballinlough Cross Roads and the Lodge. It is said priests were hanged on this tree in Cromwell's time. People do not like to pass it at night.
(Mrs Leavy, Kilrush) - At Ballinlough Cross-roads there is a Gallows tree. Some years ago a roadman placed his coat on its branches. Next morning he was found dead in bed. (L. Leavy, Shanco)

- Two brothers (blacksmiths) were rebels and were arrested and hanged on the ash-tree called the Hangman's Tree. There was an iron cross erected on the tree in memory of the two men. It broke and fell and a bit of it got stuck in the butt of the tree. It should be there yet.
(Mrs Gavagan, mheadhon-aosta, Cluain Miolaín)
