- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)the cross on his forehead. On Shrove Tuesday it is the custom to make pancakes for the tea. The eggs that are laid on Good Friday are marked with a cross and eaten on Easter Sunday. Each member of the family tries to rival the other in the number of eggs he eats. On May Eve a may-bush is dressed with bunches of flowers. In olden times only three bunches were put on it - one for faith, one for hope, and one for charity. On May Day a young girl is dressed up and there is a procession through the streets of the city. A goose is fattened and killed on Michaelmas Day.
