Ar an leathanach seo
- Long ago there was a large number of Protestants living in Mullingar. One day there was a Confraternity procession through the streets. A protestant man, dressed up a greyhound and brought him before the crowd. The bishop cursed that family and they all died soon after. A nephew of them was in the army and he went to shoot the bishop. The bishop said Mullingar would be destroyed. So Lough Owel was flooded and the town was destroyed. It is said that if you looked into Lough Owel on a summer day you would see the houses of old Mullingar over the top of the water.
