- In all old graveyards the coffin of a priest is placed in the grave in a country direction to those of lay people. As the priest faces the congregation from the altar when living so he must face them in death also.
The funeral cortege always made the circuit of the graveyard twice, reciting the De Profundus, and stopped at the grave on the third round for the burial of any person.
