- Matthew Daly Wier who lived in Castletown was a poet. He was born in Castletown in 1800. He was buried in the Old Graveyard of Castletown. He wrote a lot of poems. One of them was the Castletown - G - Men. : as follows -
Gallant and true are the men of Westmeath,
Like their patriot fathers before them,
For still they are mustered in battle beneath.
The banner of Erin that bore them,
For foremost and best.
In advance of the rest,
Fighting on to be happy and freemen.
For there is not in the land,
Such a patriot band,
As the conquering Castletown - G - Men.
Then hurrah for our Castletown - G. - Men.
Right worthy are they to be freemen,
For there is not in the land,
Such a patriot band.
As the conquering Castletown - G - Men.

There are Castletowns near us and far from our own,
Some are built out of mud.
More are stately of stone,(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
