- Scotch Hill
On the banks of the River Inny is a point adjacent to the regulating weir in the townsland of Ballyharney is a hill known as Scotch Hill. On this hill a fierce battle was fought between the Scotch and the Irish.
I am unable to ascertain the date of the battle but it was a very firece encounter and the hill is since known as Scotch Hill. At this point in the river there is a ford and the Scotch army was retreating from a battle in Co. Longford. The battle at the Scotch hill was fought with pikes, battle axes etc. The use of musketry was unknown at this time.- Bailitheoir
