- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)Spinning Long ago people used to grow their own flax and spin all their own clothes The flax was pulled and tied up in sheaves Then it was bogged When it was taken home it was put on a hurdle to dry The hurdle was made of sallies, srong ones forming frames and lighter ones woven in and out This hurdle was placed in a ditch with a dire underneath A person had to be there to keep the flax turned When it was dry it was taken into the barn and was broken by a hand staff (a log of wood with a long handle) After this it was hackled by a hackler and then it had to be scutched It was tied up into slivers and was ready for the spinning wheel The flax was left on the ground They work their two feet on a step which keeps the wheel in motion. With the two first fingers and two thumbs they keep twisting the thread that is coming up from the slivers on the floor
