  1. There was a man once lived with his wife. They were going to a party, and the mistress went up stairs to get ready. When she was so long about getting ready he called her, and called her. Then he went up and found her dead. Then they waked her and buried her. He had a farm some distance away from his house. He had a caretaker on it and one evening the woman appeared to the caretaker. She pointed out a cow to the man, and told him to tell her husband to give away that cow and she would return to him. The caretaker told her husband and he said that he would not give the cow away. "When my wife went with the fairies she could stop with them". Next morning when the caretaker went out to the field, he found the cow dead. After some time all the man's stock died and he was reduced to poverty. The people in this story lived in a big house in Terlicken on a big farm now owned by Hugh Garahan.
