It has been heard that in old times when wolves roamed about, the four men guarded the grave for some days after the internment.
Before hearses came into use the coffin was carried to the grave-yard on stretchers. These were two pieces of ash sticks each about four feet long. Two men walked at each side of the coffin and those sticks were placed under the coffin near the feet and near the head.
