- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)to take a thorn out of my father's finger not long ago. He went out to the bog and collected herbs and every kind of thorn. He chopped them up and boiled all together and made into a poultice. He applied the poultice on a cloth and after twenty four hours the thorn was drawn out. Long ago warts were cured with a snail. You were supposed not to look for the snail but when you got one you were to rub him to the wart and afterwards hang him on a white thorn bush and as quickly as the snail would wither the warts would wither as quilkly. Another cure for warts in olden times was to steal a very small piece of bacon out of a house that you did not visit reguarly and rub it to the wart and when finished with it bury it in the ground so that no one would get it. Mr Mac Hugh from Gurteen has the cure for a whitlow.
