- The implement used for digging in my district is called a loy.
It consists of two parts namely the tree and the iron.
The tree is made by a carpenter from ash and consists of a long handle or shaft and a thick part having a step for the foot called a "preab". On this thick part the iron is fixed.
The iron is made in a forge and consists of the body and the blade. The end of the blade is tempered with steel and is very sharp and is used for cutting.
The body has two strong wings, and when the wood of the loy is driven firmly between the wings they keep a grip on the wood and they prevent the iron from falling off.
