Old Houses
Houses long ago were very different to the houses that are now.
The walls were built of mud and yellow clay. They had clay flowrs and wooden chimneys. They had thatched roofs and there was a hole in the wall for the door, and the people used to creep on their hands and feet when they would be entering the house.
There was also another large hole in the kitchen where the people used to throw out water. There were no arches long ago except hobs. The ashes used to be put in a hole in the hob. They had turf and sticks for burning.
The beds were placed in the kitchen but now the placed in the rooms.
