got a small stream coming from the well. There was a small article found near the monastery some years ago, under five feet of ground. It was a pewter measure belonging to the monastery. A hundred years ago, a Mr. Bullos was carting stones from the monastery and he found a large nugget of gold. He brought it home but the poor people did not know the value of it. He sold it to a Goldsmith in Dublin for a large sum of money.
The people are afraid to look for the treasures of the monastery for it is said that there will be three deaths at the discovery of the treasures.
This was told to me by William Heery, Abbeylara, aged 73 years.
