- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)year except at Easter. For Christmas Day also there were two or three geese killed in every house. On Shrove Tuesday the people used to eat a lot of pancakes.Tea came into use over one hundred years ago. At first, the people did not know how to use it. They used to boil it and then they used to take the water off the leaves. Then they mixed the leaves with pepper and salt and butter and then spread it on their bread and eat it. Before cups became common, wooden vessels called noggins were used. This was told to me by Mrs. Masterson, Derragh, aged 72 years.
