- Almost sixty years back boots were worn at the same time as now, at about the age of one or two years. In most country schools the boys go barefooted not only during Summer but also in the fine days of Spring and Autumn. No accounts as to people that never wore boots can be procured.No particular thing is done with the water in which the feet are washed. No customs or beliefs are connected with it at least not in this locality.In former times there were three shoemakers in the district. One of them was Martin Redmond of Knocknagall who is now dead. Another was Pat Stafford of Tannerhill, and the other was John Roche of Ballycogley.The neighbours got their boots made by these shoemakers. Gradually however people began to buy their boots in Wexford, and the shoemakers getting nothing to do died out. At the present day there is no shoemaker in the district.
