- Rathaspeck was a parish long ago.
It consisted of twenty one townlands.
Rathasbuig in original language was the name of the parish which means,
"Rath of the bishop".
No account shows who the bishop was.
This catholic church has disappeared, and a protestant church is built in the same place.The church is built on a high piece of land, which was evidently a fort, from which the first part of the name is derived.The only remains of the catholic church is an old baptismal font, which was on the south west of the graveyard. It is in the present protestant church now. Tradition tells us that the font was carried out, and it went back again into the church.
The font is about two feet high and nine inches deep. It is formed of granite.
