Bands of men roamed around the countryside plundering and robbing. These men were called Redcoats and were hated by the Irish people. Irishmen got together into bands and attacked them whenever they got a chance. One of these bands pestered the English very much. But at last the Redcoats hit on a plan to trap them. They sent a little band of men, and about half a mile at the back of them came a big army of Redcoats. The little band of English soldiers were attacked at last in a thick wood by about four hundred United Irishmen a terrific battle followed in which the Redcoats were routed.
