Intent on revenge, he had forgotten about the sentries. One of these, hearing a slight noise ran to O'Neills camp and saw Larkin with his gun raised ready to shoot at the still body of O'Neill. The sentry had nothing but a pike, but he rushed Larkin and ran the pike through his shoulder. Larkin cried out in pain and his cry awakened O'Neill, who seized his gun and shot him.
