  1. A Ghost Story
Notes from Kathleen Fortune, aged 13 years. Kilmuckridge.
My great grandfather was coming from a forge one night very late riding on horseback.
When he was coming near where he works, he saw a black object lying across the road. The horse shied and would not pass it. He got down and began at once to say his prayers making the sign of the Cross on himself and also on the horse.
After this, the black object curled itself up into a ball and hurled itself up into the air right over his head. He heard a voice saying, "Work by day, rest by night And let evil spirits have their flight".
