- 189Buying and Selling.I often heard the words, "boot", "cant" and "score" in connection with buying &c.
The word "boot" means means buying (exchanging?) a better thing than your own, and giving some money with your own thing, and this money is called "boot". The words "luck" means if you bought a cow or some other some other animal from a person, the person you would buy it from would give you some money for "luck" with a cow etc. The word "cant" means some short saying. The word "score" means getting things without paying for them for some time. The local names for some coins are a shilling is called a bob; sixpence is called a tanner; and a pound (£) is called a quid.Mary Breen,
