- 198Travelling Folk. Some of the travelling folk who call to the houses around here are :-
Connors, Berrys, Cashs, Kellys, Youngs, Briens, Mahons, Joyces, Wall.
An old beggar who used to go around here playing a tin-whistle was Jack Fitzpatrick. An old ballad singer was Jim Boylan.
The Connors have for many years been travelling in this district. They are famous for their tin - ware. Some of the Connors women go around with baskets selling small articles.
Berrys are not real tinkers, but they go around hawking and begging in this district.
Cashs and Connors are nearly all one; they sell articles.
Kellys are not so numerous in this district as the Cashs or Connors and they sell tin-ware.
Briens are the same as the other tinkers
Youngs, Mahons, and Joyces are much the same as the other hawkers.
My mother always regards them as a great nuisance coming about the place. No travellers ever stayed at our farm. Most of this class of people camp on bye-roads(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
