  1. The Potato Crop 21.6.1938

    About two acres of potatoes are sown in our land every year. The ground is prepared first by ploughing it and harrowing it. Then the drills are made with a plough. The potatoes are put down in the drills first and are left one foot apart. The large potatoes arecut and the small ones are left whole for sowing.
    When the potatoes are up abouve the ground they are scuffed with an implement called a scuffle. Scuffling consists in taking the weeds out of the furrows. This is done in the Summer time. Moulding consists in putting the clay around the potatoes by means of a plough. Sometimes people help one an-
