There was a wake in Hayestown, Taghmon, Co Wexford, Bantry a very long, long time ago. The people of the house were biling a piece of mate for some friends.
Some of the purtie boys were sittin' around the fire and they stole the piece o' mate out of the pot.
They put an ould brogue in the pot instead o' the mate.
When the woman thought it ought to be done, she stuck the fork in the ould brogue. "O Begob" says she, "Its not done at all, it's very tough still."
She left it biling for an other hour and when she went to it again she found it was as tough as ever.
She said She'd leave it there for another hour, and then she'd take it up done or undone.
When she took it up she found it was an ould brogue instead of the fine piece of mate.
So herself an her friends had to do without the piece of mate, but the boys who stole it had a(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
