- In the townland of Lynally, in the parish of Mucklagh, in the barony of Ballycowhan and in the county of Offaly there is a huge moat under which a treasure is supposed to be hidden. Near the moat are the remains of St. Colman's ancient monastery. There is a hole in the floor of the monastery and a passage leads from the hole down in under the moat.
Two men, Mr. Mooney and Mr Healion, went on different occasions to seek the treasure but each time they were unsuccessfull. Mr. Mooney went down the passage until he came to an iron gate. There was a monstrous black cat sitting on the gate and the man was often afraid to go any farther because he knew that the cat was the devil.
