    The Stars. It is said in this district that if the stars twinkling very brightly at night it is the sign of heavy frost.
    The Wind. If the wind is coming from Killeigh the people in my native townland say that it will rain soon and that it will be very cold also. They also say that the wind from Killeigh brings most rain to my townland.
    The Birds. If the crows are flying round and round and not flying in any direction, it is the sign of a storm.
    The Animals. If the cat sits with her back to the fire it is the sign of rain.
    The Insects. If there are a great many flying ants in the sky it is the sign of rain.
    Natural Features. If the wind whirls the dust of the road round and round it is call a "fairyblast" and it is a sign of rain.
    The Fire. If the smoke goes up straight it is the sign of good weather but if the smoke whirls about it is the sign of harsh weather.
