  1. There is treasure supposed to be hidden on the bank of the Shannon in Clonmacnoise. It is a crock of gold which is hidden under a lone bush near the waters edge. A ghostly man with no head continually guards the treasure. People who pass that way are said to see him and he is supposed to ask them to visit the gold.
Anyone who accedes to the request would hvae to guard the gold. A weird story is told in the district. Two men are supposed to have stolen the gold. One of them was very greedy and wanted all the gold for himself. With this intention he killed his companion after they had burried the gold.
Then resolved to cross the Shannon and escape but in midstream the boat ran into a whirlpool and capsized. the man was drowned and it is supposed to be his ghost guards the treasure.
