    wretched robins or by the roadside. Fever followed in the wake of the famine, soon all the Churchyards were filled by the corpses of the victims of this disease.
    As the year advanced the deaths became so numerous that coffins could not be procured for all. Numbers were wrapped in shrouds carried in "trap coffins" to the cemetry and buried. The trap coffin was made like the ordinary coffin with a bottom on hinges closed on one side by an iron clasp. The corpse was put into this and lowered into the grave. The clasp was
