“During the Penal Laws in Ireland...”
During the Penal Laws in Ireland when religious persecution was at its height a Friar who was hiding in Strawberry hill was chased by English soldiers over the the Ballysheil road where he was slaughtered on the roadside.
His body remained there on the roadside, and his head hopped along the road for about fifty yards and rested in Camon's garden where a well sprang up. His body was buried on the roadside where he was killed and a large square stone marks the grave where the Friar's body rests. Hundreds of years ago people from all over the midlands came to visit the place and brought water from the well and clay from underneath the stone. Many miraculous cures are supposed to have taken place after visiting the place.- Bailitheoir
