- About half way between Birr in Offaly and Ballingeary in Tipperary there is a hill called Knocksheegowna. When this hill in Tipperary is clearly visible on a bright dry day from the neigbourhood of Cloghan especially from the villages of Galross and Tonemone rain is sure to come.
Wind from Banagher is bad; it brings rain. Banagher wind and Athlone lambs (lambs bought in Athlone) are bad.
There is another hill situated near Kilcormac in Offaly called (-) and in fine weather it is an unfailing sign of coming rain to see the bushes and fences on this hill clearly. It is about (-) miles east from Cloghan. When the clouds look like goats beards rain is denoted. When they look like mares tails wind may be expected.- Bailitheoir
