- About forty years ago a rumour was about Borris that several people had seen during the dead hour of the night a ghost in the form of a hound at Scortheen Hill which is about half a mile from Borris on the Rathanna side. Now several nervous people had seen the so called ghost and ran away with their lives fearing they would be devoured. At last many people would go a round about way of their journey rather than pass the dreaded hill.
Some man as the story goes was walking up the Scortheen Hill at about 12 o'clock one night. He was at a wake of an old friend of his who died in Borris. About midway up the hill sure enough, out jumps a hound from over the fence. The man whose name I do not know(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
