- In olden times people had three meals a day breakfast dinner and supper. They had breakfast at 7 a.m. This usually consisted of oatmeal stirabout and cocoa and boxty bread after. Dinner was generally at one o'clock. The table was placed in the middle of the floor and a piece of canvas was laid on it. The potatoes were thrown on it and the people sat round. The table was hung up by the wall when not in use. They drank out of wooden noggins and the woman-of-the-house had a pewter goblet of her own. They had supper generally about seven o'clock.
