The following is described by Mr. Mc Darby. On April 10th 1647 the Confederates, under General Preston, laid siege to Carlow Castle. It was not by any means the first time in its history that the Castle had been invested, but a particular interest is attached to this occasion. After sustaining the siege for nearly a month the garrison surrendered on May 2nd. The significance of this victory for the Confederates can be gauged from the fact that Carlow was the last place of any importance in Leinster with(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
