Long ago the ordinary candles were not to be found. The people made candles in their houses. They made candles called rush candles. This is how the made them. First they pealed the rushes, then they dipped them in fat and then they let them dry. This is one light which they used.
There is a man named Jim Purcell in Monavea who is supposed to be a great thatcher. There was a man in Fairymount who could make baskets in a couple of minutes. This man's name was Pat Mulhall.
