- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)It was also foretold that a life should be sacrificed and blood shed at the stone if any attempt to take the gold were to be successful.
There was no chance of getting the gold by day for two reasons. One was that the stone was too big to be moved and the second was that if there was an attempt to remove the gold by the light of day it would all turn out to be useless, nothing but bones and ashes. It was therefore only at night, while the stone was on its usual journey to Gould Brook to quench its thirst that an attempt could be made to get the gold. Those making the attempt would first have to 'quieten' the pooka and then offer some animal's life, such as a cock or a chicken to appease the anger of the 'spirits.'
During the day the pooka slept in his cell under the stone + was never seen but at night he came out to frighten away men, women, and children who dared to go near his home.
