  1. One morning early two men were going to a fair. When they came to Ryan's Cross one of them wanted to light his pipe but he had not any matches. He saw a light in the nearest of the two houses opposite and the man said I will go over and ask for match. He went over and opened the door and went in.
    There was a good fire he looked down into the room where he saw four candles lighting. There was a wake in the room; he went down and said his prayers but no one spoke to him. He left the wake room and came to the kitchen where he lit his pipe and came out. He told the other man.
    When they were coming home in the evening they went into the shop. They asked Mr Ryan "Who was dead in the near house opposite"; They were surprised then old Charles Ryan told them that no one had lived in that house for twelve years. Mother told me
