- The Potato Crop.
In the olden times in order to sow potatoes the ground was dug up with a spade. After this ridges were made about a foot wide, and into them was put manure. A pointed stick then had to be procured with a bit of steel on the top of it called a "steeveen", and with this, holes were made in the ground and the potato seed dropped in. They were then covered up with clay. - Weather Signs.
If the dog grazes the next day will be wet.
A circle around the moon is a sign that the following day will be wet.
If the swallows fly low we shall have a storm.
If the cat sits with her back to the fire, rain will fall next day.
When the spider spins at night the following day will be fine.Lena Murphy
