- Baskets were made here long ago and there are some made now too. They were made from sallies which were got in the bogs. Before making the baskets the sallies were heated so as to make them soft. After that they could be easily bent without breaking. Four thick sallies were used to make the frame. Then thinner sallies were interwoven through the frame so as to make it nearly air tight.
There were two handles one at each side, these handles were made from fine sallies twisted closely together and very like a rope. These handles were very strong and would carry any load that was put in the basket. The handle was the nicest part of the basket. These baskets were far bigger and stronger than the ones they make now Sometimes they were made from hazels.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
