- About fifty years ago, there was a great, frost, and it lasted seven weeks. The river and lakes were frozen over, and people often walked down Lower Lough Mac Nean. Most of the young people spent the night sliding and skating.
During the severe frost the roads were very slippery. Great numbers of birds died of hunger. Farmers had to take extra care of their cattle and sheep while the frost and snow lasted.
There was very high wind in 1927, slates were blown off houses, trees and telegraph wires were blown down.
