- (continued from previous page)western end it is a proof that good weather is coming. But in the north bad weather is expected. People say "that a red sky at night is the shepherds delight a red sky in the morning is the shepherds warning". Crows flying high is a sign of good weather. But flying low and hovering about it a sign of bad weather.
If the waterfall or river is heard plainer than usual bad weather will follow. Smoke curling straight up from the chimney is a sign of calm weather. If the cat sharpens her claws on a board high wind will follow or if she washes at the backs of her ears a flood will follow. A dog eating grass is a sign of bad weather. If the train is heard plainer and louder than usual frost will follow. A very strong heat off the fire is a sign of cold and frost. When sea gulls and sea birds come inland bad weather will follow. When hills look near and black bad weather will follow.- Collector
