Magpies are considered very unlucky and it is said that they curse anyone who interferes with them.If a person going to a Fair or any business meets one magpie it is a sign of ill-luck. But the ill-luck can be avoided if the person spits across the first finger of his right hand.The following rhyme shows the local belief regarding the magpie:-
"One for sorrow
Two for joy
Three for a wedding
Four for a boy
