Forts are erected on high hills so that the Irish could see an enemy approaching across the plains and could signal from one fort to another so as to warn the people of their approach. There used to be fairies at it long ago but they are not there now. It is said that it is not lucky to cut the hedge that is round a fort. One time when a man was cutting one of the trees, A stick hit him and broke his eye. And no one interfere's with the hedge round the fort since that happened.
