- Paddy Mc. Kiernan our neighbour has 2 doors on his kitchen front and back. If the hall door was left [?] bolted they would have no peace all night. The fairies used his house and yard for a short cut from one road to another.
The Rosses who live near Derrylin are in the same boat. If their Hall- door was barred or bolted they would be awake all night with the knocking and hammering, so they always leave it a little bit ajar. When H. M. was a small boy there were no hay sheds. Some hay had been built in a rick in the stack-yard, it had rained the night before. There was a puddle of water at the end of it. H. M. was looking into this puddle and saw a lot of small things like little buttons.
He took them in and showed them to his Father & Mother. The like had never been seen before. The Father wrote something on a piece of paper and the objects and paper were then placed where they were found. No one saw them ever after.- Collector
