  1. Long ago there were great storms. Sometimes they lasted for a week. They used to knock hay and straw. These are the months of the year of which the storm comes mostly, December, October and January. There were great falls of snow. The snow was about ten or eleven feet deep. The snow went into the houses, and men, women and cattle were lost in it. The people had to pile it up in a big heap to make a pass for them to go in and out. This storm did a lot of damage in the country. Ships were also lost with this storm. In 1839 there was a Big Wind and it blew down the well known Bush of Ardleny. It is only about two years since there was a flood and it damaged some people's potatoes. This flood lasted for two or three days. It is about five years since there was a big snow fall. It was three feet deep. That lasted for a week.
